Supporting the food and agriculture sector from reconstruction to self-sufficiency with support from consumers and companies

October 27, 2011

Overview

The food and agriculture sector is beginning to see the benefits of the vision set out and the budgetary measures introduced by the government, as well as reconstruction aid in the form of price support by private-sector companies.
However, seven months after the earthquake and tsunami, with the focus of news from the disaster area shifting away from “sustaining life” towards “restoring livelihoods”, a serious local problem is emerging, in the form of a shortage of funds to support business regeneration.
As a solution to help restore livelihoods, this report proposes that consumers and private-sector companies be involved in the provision of support through small-amount contributions and sets out concrete schemes and a roadmap for the food and agriculture sector, from reconstruction to self-sufficiency, to be triggered by these schemes.
