The scale and sources of funding for regeneration following the Great East Japan Earthquake

The cost of regeneration work following the Great East Japan Earthquake is expected by some to reach a total of almost ¥40 trillion, but a clear overall “regeneration plan” has yet to be set out and the validity of such estimates is uncertain.

This report sets out the basic thinking regarding regeneration costs, based on the experience of regeneration following the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake, and considers the scale of funding required and the sources of this funding.
