Dainippon Sumitomo Pharma Core System Achieves Stable Operation
— Project supervised by JRI; system stable since October 2005 —

The Japan Research Institute, Limited ("JRI"; Head office: 16 Ichiban-cho, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Shunichi Okuyama) announced today that, in conjunction with the merger between Dainippon Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. and Sumitomo Pharmaceuticals Co., Ltd. in October 2005, it supervised the integration of the core systems of the two former companies on behalf of the new company, Dainippon Sumitomo Pharma Co., Ltd. (Head office: 2-6-8 Doshomachi, Chuo-ku, Osaka; President: Kenjiro Miyatake) and that the new integrated system has now achieved stable operation.

As only 10 months was allowed for system integration, between the announcement of the merger between the two companies and commissioning, the first priority was to identify the key functions that would be needed to allow new company to pursue its activities and to make a success of system integration. It was decided to use the ERP software developed by SAP, used by the former Sumitomo Pharmaceuticals as the basis of the new core system.

The schedule for the building of the new system was as follows:

• Jan 2005 Project launched in conjunction with merger decision
• Feb-Mar 2005 Definition of requirements/FIT & GAP
• Apr-Jun 2005 System development
• Jul-Sep 2005  Training and system trials/changeover
• Oct 2005 Commissioning on implementation of merger
